Take an audio file, load it into the XMPlay application, and it will play it for you. That’s the brief and to the point explanation of what this application can do for you. If there’s anything to add, that would be that the application is free, that it’s very easy to use, and that you can use skins to change the way the application looks.

To get started with XMPlay, you will first have to download a 326KB archive. Extract and run the executable inside and a setup wizard will show up; it will guide you through a very simple installation process. Moments later you will have XMPlay up and running on your Windows-powered PC.

As mentioned above, XMPlay’s interface can be customized by using skins. These extra skins are not provided with the application; you will have to download them from the official XMPlay website. Stick with the default skin and you will see that it’s quite easy to use. It displays info on the track you’re listening to, it presents an equalizer so you can adjust the playback, it features the standard playback buttons. Even if you’re a complete novice, you will immediately feel at home.

With XMPlay, you can listen to a single audio track or you can set up a playlist and listen to several tracks in a row – the choice is up to you. And speaking about choice, you can choose to load a variety of audio formats into the XMPlay application. The following audio formats are supported: OGG, MP3, MP2, MP1, WMA, WAV, AIFF, CDA, MO3, IT, XM, S3M, MTM, MOD, UMX. Since we’re on the topic of support, the application supports PLS, M3U, ASX, and WAX playlists.

All the wonderful functionality XMPlay has to offer comes free of charge.

With this free tool, you will be able to play all your audio files, set up playlists, and stream audio.

Pros

Takes little time and effort to get XMPlay up and running on your Windows PC. Support for many audio formats is provided. Support for several playlists is provided. Download skins and change the way the application looks. You can download plugins as well. XMPlay is freeware.

Cons

None that I could think of.
